This past Friday morning (December 2, 2022), firefighters from the North Maine Fire Protection District, alongside teams from Des Plaines and Niles, were dispatched to a fairly isolated spot in unincorporated Des Plaines to tackle a house fire. The sprawling home, located at 9609 Reding Circle, rests on a small lake just off Golf Road and I-294. Reding Circle is a narrow, private road that offers limited access.
Upon arrival, crews noticed smoke billowing from the structure, prompting an upgrade to a working fire status. It wasn't long before flames began erupting through the roof of the vacant residence. Initial efforts focused on an interior attack, but as conditions worsened, firefighters had to retreat and transition to a more defensive strategy, utilizing aerial operations. To manage the intense blaze, three master streams were deployed: Des Plaines Tower 61, Niles Tower 2, and Glenview Truck 14. Additionally, North Maine Engine 1, Niles Engine 3, and Prospect Heights Squad 9 were actively pumping water. Truck 2 secured its own hydrant to ensure adequate water supply.
The alarm was once again escalated to a MABAS Box Alarm, though many of the mutual aid companies weren't ultimately needed.

These images vividly illustrate the scale of the fire and the coordinated efforts of the responding departments. Despite the challenging conditions, the firefighters worked tirelessly to contain the blaze, ensuring the safety of both the surrounding area and themselves.
