On Friday morning, September 2nd, 2016, firefighters from Long Grove were joined by teams from Buffalo Grove, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, and Palatine in responding to a severe crash at the intersection of Lake-Cook Road and IL Route 53. The incident occurred around 1:30 AM when a car collided with the rear of a tractor-trailer, becoming wedged underneath it. The driver was trapped and required extensive extrication efforts.
Firefighters used three sets of hydraulic tools to free the victim, a process that took nearly an hour. A helicopter was initially requested for potential transport, but the call was canceled after the patient was safely taken to Lutheran General Hospital by Palatine Ambulance 82. The operation involved careful use of cribbing and air bags to lift the heavy truck and create space for rescue.
Several photos captured the scene, showing the dramatic moment the car was stuck beneath the semi-trailer, as well as the teamwork and equipment used during the rescue. The images provide a glimpse into the intense and coordinated response from multiple fire departments working together under challenging conditions.
More details are expected to be released as the investigation continues.
