From Dennis McGuire, Jr.:
Box Alarm 14847
S. Grant Ave., Dolton, Illinois
Date: October 12, 2014
I just got back from covering a structure fire here in Dolton. It was quite an intense scene—this house was completely engulfed in flames when we arrived. The heat was overwhelming, and you could see the smoke billowing high into the sky. I took some photos that really capture the scale of the destruction.

The firefighters worked tirelessly to bring it under control. It’s always hard to see homes go up like this, but their efforts were impressive. They managed to save part of the structure, though significant damage has been done.
Here’s another shot of them working on overhauling the remains of the fire:

It’s chaotic at first, but once they get everything under control, there’s still so much work to do. You can see how focused everyone is in this next image:

The trucks were everywhere, and it felt like every available resource was being utilized. Here’s a closer look at one of the fire trucks hooked up to a hydrant:

The firefighters did an amazing job containing the blaze, but unfortunately, the damage was extensive. This last picture shows just how devastating the fire was:

There’s something humbling about seeing professionals at work during emergencies like this. They handle everything with such precision and care.
