Former Glenbrook FPD Fire Chief Donald Long

Donald E. Long, a cherished member of the Glenview community, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2021, at the age of 93, surrounded by his loving family. A lifelong resident of Glenview, he was the devoted husband of Mary Long (née Rieb), with whom he shared 66 beautiful years of marriage. He was also the proud father of Linda (Dennis) Burmeister and Cheryl (Martin) Haugen, and the beloved grandfather of Bryan (Erin) Burmeister, Matthew (Laura) Burmeister, Christopher Haugen, and Emma Haugen (fiancé Travis Toliver). Don was also the great-grandfather of Elaine “Ellie” and the dear brother of Melvin (Late Lois) Long and the late Virginia (late Alfred) Winkleman.

A graduate of Oakton Community College and Southern Illinois University, Don served his country with honor as a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War. He dedicated many years to his community as a volunteer firefighter for the Glenbrook Rural Fire District, where he was one of the first three hired and eventually became Fire Chief. His leadership extended beyond the firehouse—he served as Past Commander of Joseph Sesterhenn Glenview American Legion Post #166, Past President of the Glenview History Center, and a member of the Glenview Council of the U.S. Navy League. He was an active member of the Glenview Sunrise Rotary Club, a board member of the Glenview Naval Air Museum, a participant in the Starlite Singers, and a Civil War reenactor. For many years, he also led the Rebuilding Together team in the area.

In 1994, Don was honored as Glenview Citizen of the Year, and he was named Alumni of the Year by Oakton Community College. One of his greatest passions was volunteering as a docent at the Wagner Farm in Glenview, a role that held special meaning for him since he grew up on a family farm in the same area now known as Flick Park. He was also a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he served in various leadership roles, including Chairman of the Congregation, Property Commission, and Cemetery Board. He was an active member of the church choir and participated in numerous theatrical productions at the church.

Crushing Equipment Series

Crushing equipment series are machines that are used to crush and grind various materials. These machines are commonly used in the mining and construction industries to reduce the size of raw materials for further processing. The crushing equipment series includes jaw crushers, impact crushers, cone crushers, and gyratory crushers.

Jaw crushers are the most commonly used type of crushing equipment in the mining and construction industries. They are designed to crush large rocks and other materials into smaller pieces. The jaw crusher consists of a fixed jaw plate and a moving jaw plate. The material is crushed by the movement of the moving jaw plate against the fixed jaw plate.

Impact crushers are used to crush materials that are not too hard or abrasive. They are commonly used in the construction industry to crush concrete, asphalt, and other materials. The impact crusher consists of a rotor that rotates at high speed and a feed chute. The material is fed into the feed chute and is then crushed by the rotating rotor.

Cone crushers are used to crush materials that are hard and abrasive. They are commonly used in the mining industry to crush ore and rock. The cone crusher consists of a mantle and a concave bowl. The material is fed into the bowl and is then crushed by the mantle as it gyrates around the bowl.

Gyratory crushers are similar to cone crushers but have a different shape. They are commonly used in the mining industry to crush ore and rock. The gyratory crusher consists of a mantle that gyrates inside a concave bowl. The material is fed into the bowl and is then crushed by the gyrating mantle.

In conclusion, crushing equipment series are essential machines in the mining and construction industries. They are designed to crush and grind various materials into smaller pieces for further processing. The different types of crushing equipment include jaw crushers, impact crushers, cone crushers, and gyratory crushers. Each type of crusher has its own unique features and is used for specific applications.
