Infrared Patio Heaters by INFRATECH: Setting the Standard for Power, Style, & Safety

5 minute read | Heaters

As summer winds down and fall arrives with its crisp air and gusty breezes, electric infrared patio heaters are providing warmth to residents and customers on patios across North America. Whether it's for a cozy backyard or a bustling restaurant patio, infrared electric heaters are the perfect way to keep spaces warm and inviting. Here at AEI, we offer a variety of heating solutions including propane, natural gas, and electric heaters, along with BBQ grills and other equipment. All of these energy sources are efficient, powerful, and safe when used properly. However, today, we’ll explore the numerous benefits and specific use cases of infrared outdoor electric heaters.

Heating Patios with Electric Heaters

Electricity serves as an excellent power source for patio heaters. Like propane and natural gas, it is affordable, eco-friendly, and widely accessible. All infrared electric patio heaters have a box-like shape, projecting their heat in a broad fan or arc in the direction they are aimed. This allows you to carefully plan and predict the area you wish to heat, offering you greater flexibility and control over your outdoor space.

Since all electric patio heaters are infrared heaters, they emit safe infrared heat. This significantly reduces risks associated with open flames and heaters that can dangerously overheat exposed heating elements. With infrared, it’s much harder to accidentally burn yourself by coming into contact with the heat-emitting surface. Of course, caution is still necessary, as prolonged exposure too close to the heat source can cause overheating. However, the amount of time it takes to reach unsafe temperatures provides ample warning before an accident occurs.

Infratech takes extra steps to ensure safety in their home and restaurant patio heaters. Their designs are intended to be installed out of reach of pets, children, and other foot traffic. Not only are their heaters safer by design, but they are always mounted in the safest possible locations.

The Benefits of Electric Heat

Given its widespread availability, outdoor electric heaters are typically a practical option for patio heating. On the other hand, some properties might lack access to natural gas, making gas-powered heaters impractical. Although propane is generally easy to find in most towns and cities, there may be instances where it isn’t accessible, or you run out after business hours, leaving a propane heater unusable. Electric heaters avoid these issues altogether.

Electric infrared heaters are a great choice for heating any outdoor patio, from restaurant or bar seating areas to hotel valet zones, apartment poolside spaces, or even residential patios to enhance comfort outdoors. To generate infrared heat, the heater electrifies a rod-shaped heating element made of quartz, which emits safe infrared rays. The quartz heating element is well protected, and the heating units are installed above and out of the way of foot traffic, children, pets, furniture, and anything else that shouldn’t be exposed to excessive heat.

Quartz heaters are highly efficient, environmentally friendly, and boast a longer operational lifespan compared to other heating devices. Infrared light is a form of regular light, but it lies on the far-red end of the visible spectrum. While invisible to the human eye, it generates heat just like ordinary light. The heated quartz rod doesn’t emit microwaves or particles; instead, it warms the surrounding environment by emitting infrared light from the heated quartz rod. Thus, it is entirely safe for everyday use.

Electric infrared heaters come in a variety of sizes and power ratings. We offer single and dual-element heaters with 1 or 2 rods, each equipped with different power settings. You can choose between single or dual-element heaters and power output levels. Select the color and finish that best matches your interior decor. We have over 50 unique electric models to choose from, ensuring there’s a heater perfectly suited to your needs.

Mounting Electric Patio Heaters

Through years of research and development, we’ve perfected the methods for mounting, positioning, and securing our single and dual-element heaters. Our infrared electric box heaters are mounted overhead and directed straight down or at an angle. They are directly connected to the building’s electrical system. Smaller, less reputable heaters that plug into electrical outlets pose a significant fire hazard and are more prone to damage or tampering.

Our electric infrared box heaters can be mounted on walls or under the eaves of a building and angled down toward your patio, seating area, or other desired spots. This ensures they are safe and secure with a protected and robust electrical connection that won’t be damaged by normal use. In some cases, they may be attached to a sturdy fence or pole. This could be a practical solution if you need to heat a patio space without nearby sturdy structures. This might apply to work areas or outdoor locations. When mounted this way, users should take special precautions to protect the units from weather and tampering. Some electric heater models can be flush-mounted to blend seamlessly with a wall or ceiling, making the unit nearly invisible and reducing the risk of collision.

Infratech Patio Heater’s Advanced Control Capabilities

One of the biggest advantages of electric heaters is the extensive range of control options. Infratech is the only electric infrared heater manufacturer that meets and exceeds AEI’s strict standards of safety and quality. For this reason, AEI exclusively carries Infratech heaters. Infratech has set a new benchmark for quality, safety, and reliability in the industry.

Electric infrared heaters offer more control options than heaters running on liquid propane or natural gas. This is because of their simple, reliable, and safe power delivery. Liquid propane and natural gas require rigid power delivery systems that need maintenance and inspection. While they can be high-quality, powerful, and dependable, they don’t offer the same range of heat delivery options.

Electric Infrared Heater Control Capabilities & Options Include:

  • Basic ON/OFF switches for straightforward control
  • Duplex or stack switches for managing multiple heaters and heating elements
  • ING input regulators let you select how much heat your heater will emit, offering you much more control

Our advanced heater control solutions are compatible with modern digital home management systems. These include universal control panels and solid-state packages. These give users full control over the outdoor heating of their property. They allow you to control heaters by zone, schedule heater activity on automatic timers, and regulate output levels during automated operation.

Our advanced control systems are Bluetooth-enabled and can be managed via a mobile app. By connecting your heaters to a “smart home” management system like Google Nest, you can pre-program, manage, monitor, and control the activity of multiple electric infrared heaters in various locations outdoors. Use these sophisticated control systems to heat your home when you're present, conserve energy while you're away, preheat a space before you arrive, and deactivate any heater remotely at any time or place.

Imagine you're on a winter vacation visiting family and friends. If a caretaker, pet sitter, service technician, or another trusted person needs to enter your home, you can warm the place up for them before they arrive and deactivate the system after they leave.

PC Extrusion Profile

HONYPRO®Polycarbonate has many good qualities like those of the metal, glass, and plastics united in it. The material is extremely impact resistant, stiff, transparent, and can handle hot and cold environments. Polycarbonate profiles are dimensionally stable. Polycarbonate profiles are used where a high impact resistant profile needs to be combined with light transmission. The applications vary from automotive, aircraft, lighting, and electronic industry. Polycarbonate is sensitive to the infusion of plasticizers and oil from Soft PVC and some rubbers. Keep this in mind when it is used as a seal or sealant; for this purpose, plasticizer-free flexible plastics are available.

PC profiles

Chemical resistance of polycarbonate profiles

Polycarbonate is resistant to diluted mineral acids, aliphatic hydrocarbon, gasoline, grease, and alcohol. It is not resistant to alkalis, ammonia, aromatic hydrocarbons, benzene, and ozone. Polycarbonate is sensitive to various chemicals that can induce environmental stress embrittlement.

Characteristics
  • Maximum tolerable temperature approximately 120⁰ C (248⁰ F).
  • Extremely impact resistant
  • Flammable can be modified to self-extinguishing
  • Good weatherproof
  • Fairly high E-module
  • Very transparent

Applications polycarbonate profiles

Polycarbonate profiles are frequently used in:

  • Lighting industry
  • Advertising and display construction
  • Automotive industry
  • Aircraft industry
  • Swimming pool covers
  • Cable systems

Material qualities polycarbonate profiles

Polycarbonate is extremely impact resistant, relatively scratch proof, and features a high gloss surface. The material is considered one of the high-quality plastics. Polycarbonate is also highly resistant to high temperatures. Its maximum tolerable temperature is 130⁰ C (266⁰ F). the impact resistance remains good at low temperatures. Polycarbonate gets frail around -190⁰ C (-310⁰ F). yet another advantage is the relatively low expansion coefficient of polycarbonate. According to the BGA and FDA guidelines, some polycarbonate products are approved for the food industry. Among other products, baby bottles are made from polycarbonate.

PC profiles

Polycarbonate colored profiles

By utilizing special pigments, the colorfastness is excellent. Polycarbonate is crystal clear and thus can be transparently colored. When the material experiences prolonged exposure to outdoor environments, the surface will turn yellowish while the impact resistance diminishes. By using UV- stabilizers and coatings, the outdoor life span can significantly improve.

Bonding with other materials

PC profiles is suitable to bond with other thermoplastics like co-, tri-, and quad extrusion. Next to bonding with natural PC, like with a different color, it also bonds well with ABS, ASA, and TPU

Welding polycarbonate profiles

Welding is best done with a heat source, like hot air or mirror welding at temperatures of 400⁰ C (752⁰ F). before welding, the material must be dried and made tension-free by heating it at a high temperature.
