Lauren Claussen from the Prospect Heights Fire Department and Larry Shapiro captured a series of powerful images showcasing the heartfelt celebration for Army Sergeant Ben Stehman in Prospect Heights on Friday. The event was a touching tribute to his service and dedication.
One image shows emergency units lining the street before heading to the home of Sgt. Stehman’s parents, while another features an unassuming limo waiting outside to take the family. As the media swarmed around him, Sgt. Stehman tried to remain composed, showing his calm demeanor under pressure.
A group of Warriors Watch Riders stood by, ready to escort him to a special luncheon held in his honor. Their motorcycles joined the procession as it made its way through town, passing by Sgt. Stehman’s former school where students had prepared handmade posters to welcome him back.
At MacArthur Middle School, children displayed signs expressing their admiration for the soldier, with one girl holding a sign that called him her hero. More banners lined the streets, each one a symbol of gratitude and pride from the community.
Local police closed off roads to ensure the parade could pass smoothly, highlighting the significance of the occasion. At the Morava Center, Prospect Heights fire department apparatus stood proudly along the street, adding to the solemn yet celebratory atmosphere.
Sgt. Stehman was honored with the "Key to the City" by the mayor, and he delivered a heartfelt speech thanking everyone for their support. He also reminded the crowd to never forget those still serving overseas.
The event concluded with Sgt. Stehman posing alongside the Warriors Watch Riders and a signed banner, capturing the spirit of unity and appreciation.
