**From Karl Klotz's Report:** --- It’s September 4, 2014, and I’m witnessing a serious structure fire in Tinley Park. Engine Company 203 was the first unit to arrive on the scene, calling it a "working fire" at a single-family home. The flames had already spread from the first floor to the second floor when they arrived. When the crews got there, the situation was intense. Heavy smoke was billowing out of the house, making it difficult for firefighters to see inside. Engine 203 quickly took charge of the initial attack, while other units started positioning themselves around the property. Here’s who was on the scene: - **Tinley Park Fire Department:** Engines 201, 201, and 203; Tower 204; Battalion Chief 201. - **Mutual Aid:** Orland Truck 7 and Mokena Engine 93. As soon as they arrived, crews went into action. Tower 204 was the first ladder company on site, setting up their equipment and preparing to go onto the roof. Meanwhile, Engine 203 was already deploying lines to fight the fire from the inside. The photos capture some of the critical moments. You can see the thick smoke pouring out of the house in one shot—what a sight! It was hard to imagine anyone could still be inside with all that smoke. Another image shows firefighters entering the house with a second hose line, moving forward despite the poor visibility. One of the most striking photos is of Tinley Park’s Tower 204 crew working on the roof. They were there to ventilate the building, which is crucial in fires like this where smoke and heat build up rapidly. In another shot, you can see Orland’s truck team cutting through the roof—this kind of work requires precision and focus. There’s also an image of firefighters entering the front of the house through what looks like almost impenetrable smoke. That takes real courage. And then there’s the dramatic shot of a firefighter standing on the roof with flames licking at the second floor windows. Incredible resilience. Finally, Mokena Engine 93 is captured in action, using a saw to cut open the garage door. This kind of teamwork and resourcefulness is what keeps communities safe. It was a long day, but everyone stayed focused and coordinated. By the end, the fire was under control, and the firefighters did an amazing job keeping things contained.
