From Karl Klotz: --- **September 4, 2014** There was a working fire on 174th Street in Tinley Park today. Engine Company 203 was the first unit to arrive on scene, reporting an active fire at a single-family residence. The fire had already spread from the first floor to the second floor when they arrived. Here’s what happened next: - **First Arriving Units:** Engine 203 was first on scene, followed by Engine 201, Truck 204, Battalion Chief 201, along with support from Orland Truck 7 and Mokena Engine 93. - **Initial Conditions:** When Engine 203 arrived, heavy smoke was already visible. The primary focus was on containing the fire and preventing it from spreading further. --- I managed to take some photos while crews were working. Here's what I observed: 1. **Arrival Scene:** Heavy smoke engulfed the house upon arrival. It was clear that the fire had been burning for some time before crews got there. They were moving fast to ensure the blaze didn’t escalate further. They immediately began assessing the situation from above. [Photo: "Firemen cut roof to ventilate fire."] 5. **Frontline Action:** Frontal efforts were intense as firefighters worked to extinguish flames coming out of the second-floor windows. [Photo: "Fireman on roof with flames."] 7. **Garage Door Breach:** Mokena Engine 93 also played a critical role by breaching the garage door with a saw to access potential fire sources inside. [Photo: "Fireman cuts garage door with saw."] --- This fire required a coordinated effort from multiple departments, and it was impressive to see how everyone worked together under pressure. It’s always a reminder of the dedication and skill these firefighters bring to their jobs every day. --- *Note: All images were taken by Karl Klotz.*
