**Enhancing Core Tools with AI**
At Autodesk, we're adding AI capabilities to our existing creative tools to speed up artist workflows:
- Rendering high-quality images often requires immense computational power. Using AI in Arnold, artists can now quickly remove noise from their renders every time they finish a scene.
- In Flame, if an artist wants to slow down a video clip, we employ AI to generate additional frames between the existing ones, resulting in smoother transitions and more realistic outcomes.
- In Maya, there's now the **ML Deformer**, which learns how a complex character moves based on the data within a scene. Animators can then pose the character in real-time, as the tool approximates intricate deformations for them.
**Advancing the Industry with AI**
Today, artists can use **Wonder Studio** to effortlessly integrate characters into live-action footage. At Autodesk University (AU) 2024, we're introducing a groundbreaking new AI feature in Wonder Studio called Motion Prediction, which anticipates character poses even when the view is partially obstructed. Motion Prediction reduces jitter and creates smoother, more natural movements.
Peter France, a VFX artist at Corridor Digital, an independent VFX studio, mentioned, “As an independent artist, you often aim for ambitious projects. Wonder Studio will be an invaluable tool for people like us, allowing us to pursue bolder ideas.â€
**Pushing Boundaries with Neural Motion Control**
Autodesk Research is exploring the potential of AI for artists. One notable example is **Neural Motion Control**, a prototype that lets animators guide a character's actions using just a few keyframes and a neural network. This saves animators significant time while retaining fine-grained control, allowing them to focus on creating unique performances.
**Boosting Efficiency with Autodesk Flow**
Autodesk Flow, the industry cloud for Media and Entertainment, connects workflows, data, and teams throughout the entire production process, from initial concepts to final deliveries. At the core of Flow lies a unified data model driving the new features we're presenting at AU.
- The revamped user experience in **Flow Capture**, our camera-to-cloud solution, places assets front and center—exactly where they belong! Studios can now locate their assets in one centralized location, organize them via a new drag-and-drop feature, and more.
- We're launching a new **Flow Graph Engine API** that enables developers to run Bifrost graphs in the cloud and build custom computing solutions tailored to their studios. This fosters an ecosystem where others can build on the Flow Graph Engine. DigitalFish, a company specializing in developing innovative tools for digital media creation in entertainment, has already utilized the Flow Graph Engine API. They're building an XR workflow using Apple’s iOS and visionOS to bring cloud-based computation and pre-visualization of effects directly to the set. The workflow begins with scanning the set to create a digital twin, followed by completing the mesh using the Flow Graph Engine. VFX artists can then add 3D assets and simulations that interact with the digital twin. Effects are rendered in the cloud, allowing directors to visualize precisely how the visual effects will alter the scene. This enables actors to refine their performances, cinematographers to frame optimal shots, and the entire team to collaborate with 3D elements. Additionally, we've developed Autodesk’s **Flow Retopology service** (available in both Maya and 3ds Max 2025), powered by the Flow Graph Engine, which allows artists to offload the preparation of complex meshes for animation and rendering to the cloud.
- We're enhancing artist workflows with new Flow features that connect to our desktop solutions, including **Flow Animating in Context for Maya**. The editor’s creative intent drives every production, yet it remains invisible to artists working in Maya. We’ll address this by linking data from Flow Production Tracking to Maya and vice versa. Animators will soon be able to view the editorial timeline as they work, leading to faster and better animations.
