Early Friday morning (December 2, 2022), firefighters from the North Maine Fire Protection District, along with teams from Des Plaines and Niles, responded to a house fire at a remote location in unincorporated Des Plaines. The large residence, located at 9609 Reding Circle, sits on a small lake just off Golf Road and Interstate 294. Reding Circle is a narrow, private road with limited access, making the scene challenging for emergency personnel. Upon arrival, crews noticed smoke billowing from the structure, prompting an immediate upgrade to a working fire status. It wasn't long before flames began to erupt through the roof of the vacant home. Initial efforts focused on an interior attack, but due to the intensity of the fire, firefighters soon transitioned to a more defensive strategy using aerial operations. Three ladder trucks were deployed to utilize master streams to douse the flames: Des Plaines Tower 61, Niles Tower 2, and Glenview Truck 14. Meanwhile, North Maine Engine 1, Niles Engine 3, and Prospect Heights Squad 9 provided critical water supply support. Truck 2 established its own hydrant connection to ensure uninterrupted water flow. The incident escalated further when the alarm was upgraded to a MABAS Box Alarm, signaling the need for additional mutual aid resources. However, despite the activation, many of these external units remained on standby as the primary forces worked diligently to contain the blaze. The photos captured by Tim Olk offer a glimpse into the intensity of the firefighting efforts. In one image, firefighters can be seen operating heavy equipment under the glow of the flames. Another captures the strategic positioning of multiple apparatus around the property, highlighting the coordinated response. A third photo reveals the vast scale of the operation, with firefighters working tirelessly against the backdrop of the burning structure. Additional shots showcase the teamwork involved in managing such a complex scenario. By sunrise, the fire had been largely contained, though significant damage had already been inflicted on the house. Local authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, which remains under review. The narrow confines of Reding Circle added complexity to the operation, underscoring the importance of precise coordination among responding agencies. As daylight broke, firefighters continued cleanup operations, leaving behind a testament to their dedication and professionalism in the face of adversity.
