Commercial fire in Des Plaines, 12-31-18

Late Monday afternoon, firefighters from Des Plaines were dispatched to the Wonton Gourmet restaurant located at 1405 N Elmhurst Road following an alarm. A call had come in reporting smoke emanating from the building, prompting the emergency response team to upgrade their readiness level. Engine 63 was among the first to arrive on the scene, and upon arrival, they observed smoke billowing out of a roof vent, quickly identifying that the source was the kitchen. Despite the rapid response, the entire structure was already filled with smoke by the time the fire was successfully extinguished. In addition to the local Des Plaines units, support arrived from various neighboring areas, including Elk Grove Township Engine 11, Prospect Heights Tower 9, and ambulances from Elk Grove Township, Rosemont, and Mt. Prospect. The collaborative effort ensured that the situation was managed efficiently, minimizing potential damage and ensuring everyone’s safety.
