Late Monday afternoon, Des Plaines firefighters were dispatched to the Wonton Gourmet restaurant located at 1405 N Elmhurst Road following an alarm. A call came in reporting smoke emanating from the building, prompting an upgrade in the response level. Engine 63 arrived on the scene to find smoke billowing from a roof vent, indicating a fire had broken out in the kitchen. Despite the rapid response, the entire structure became filled with smoke before the flames could be fully extinguished.
In addition to the local Des Plaines units, additional support arrived from neighboring areas including Elk Grove Township Engine 11, Prospect Heights Tower 9, as well as ambulances from Elk Grove Township, Rosemont, and Mt. Prospect. The collaborative effort ensured that all necessary resources were on hand to address the situation effectively.
