Today, Autodesk has announced an updated release of its Revit software for Building Information Modeling (BIM). This new version, Revit 2015 R2, is now available exclusively to Maintenance and Desktop Subscription customers*. The update brings over 30 features requested by users, enhancing the software's power, performance, and productivity for architects, mechanical, electrical, and structural engineers. Revit 2015 R2 addresses several customer requests while providing additional value to Subscription customers by granting them access to cutting-edge Revit technologies. As Jim Lynch, Vice President of Building and Collaboration Products at Autodesk, stated, "Our customers consistently seek greater efficiency and capability from the tools they depend on. With this update, we aim to meet those demands and empower our subscribers to exceed client expectations using the latest advancements from Autodesk." In line with this release, Autodesk is also fulfilling another customer request by introducing site planning tools within Revit. The newly launched Site Designer Extension for Revit® 2015 software, available through the Autodesk Exchange store to select Subscription customers**, builds upon technology acquired from Eagle Point Software Corporation under the former name SiteWorks. [Figure 1] illustrates how Site Designer empowers architects, designers, and planners to mold terrain for building sites and seamlessly integrate these designs into the broader building model. Features include modeling alternatives for mass grading, building pads, streets, sidewalks, parking lots, and retaining walls—all within the Revit environment. Site Designer automatically adjusts the underlying topographical surface, creating context-rich models that can be shared between Revit and AutoCAD® Civil 3D® via Land XML files. This fosters enhanced collaboration between architects and engineers. Additionally, R2 optimizes the performance of Site Designer by accelerating the editing and regeneration of intricate site design elements. Last month, Autodesk offered a sneak peek of the new functionalities through the "Revit Sundial" preview event. Revit 2015 R2 marks the Subscription-exclusive rollout of this preview. Feedback from users who tested the preview version was overwhelmingly positive, particularly regarding the speed improvements in rendering and regenerating data-heavy views. Completely compatible with existing Revit 2015 versions, R2 ensures a smooth installation process without disrupting ongoing work. It introduces several key enhancements: **Power**: - Explore energy performance insights through custom dashboards in Project Solon via the Result and Compare dialog. - Utilize existing geometry in linked IFC models as references for dimensions, alignment, snapping, and hosting of certain families. - Debug models more effectively with the Reveal Constraints mode, making all dimension and alignment constraints visible in a view. - Experiment with visual programming using the open-source Dynamo interface for computational design, now pre-installed with Revit. **Performance**: - Accelerate edits and regeneration of complex toposurfaces, subregions, and building pads created using the new Site Builder Extension for Revit. - Improve energy analysis model performance with reduced memory usage during large-scale analyses. - Enjoy faster rendering and updates for views containing multiple family instances. - Experience quicker display of Revit links within views. **Productivity**: - Adjust 'wall join' behavior swiftly in perspective views with a single-click group edit. - Locate content more efficiently using the Search function in the Type Selector. - Navigate PDF exports from Revit more smoothly with hyperlinked views. [Figure 2] highlights how linked IFC models can serve as references for dimensions, alignment, snapping, and hosting of specific families within a Revit model. The development team at Autodesk continues to refine the user experience for BIM professionals with each new release. Jim Lynch expressed excitement about delivering these innovations to Subscription customers, emphasizing their commitment to achieving their goals with Autodesk's BIM solutions. **Availability** Autodesk Revit 2015 R2 is now accessible to Maintenance and Desktop Subscription customers globally, starting September 17. It is available in the following languages: Brazilian Portuguese, Czech, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, and Traditional Chinese. [Figure 3] showcases how electrical engineers and designers can leverage the new Search feature in the Panel List to swiftly locate panels by typing their numbers. *Autodesk Revit 2015 R2 is available to current Subscription customers of Autodesk® Building Design Suite Premium and Ultimate, Autodesk® Infrastructure Design Suite Ultimate, Autodesk® Revit® Architecture, Autodesk® Revit® Structure, Autodesk® Revit® MEP, Autodesk® Revit LT™, and Autodesk® AutoCAD® Revit LT™ Suite software. **Site Designer Extension for Revit 2015 is available to current Maintenance and Desktop Subscription customers of Autodesk Building Design Suite Premium and Ultimate, Autodesk Revit Architecture, Autodesk Revit Structure, and Autodesk Revit MEP.
