For software developers in the media and entertainment industry, there's no greater recognition than the Scientific and Technical Awards. We're proud to announce that this year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present a Technical Achievement Award to Shotgun Software—a well-deserved honor for their groundbreaking contributions to film production. The Academy, known for hosting the Oscars, has also been recognizing technological advancements in filmmaking since 1931 through its Scientific and Technical Awards. These awards are given to innovations that significantly enhance the motion picture industry. Each submission is reviewed by a panel of industry experts who assess the impact and quality of the technology on modern filmmaking.

Learn more about Shotgun Software

The award will be officially given at the 72nd Annual Technology and Engineering Emmy® Awards in October. This marks the second time Shotgun has received an Emmy®, having previously won in 2017. Shotgun was founded in 2006 by a team of passionate developers looking to streamline their own production workflows. Their platform, initially built for internal use, evolved into a powerful tool for managing tasks, tracking progress, and coordinating teams across the film and TV industries. In 2014, it was acquired by Autodesk and has since grown into the go-to solution for thousands of studios worldwide. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the entire Shotgun team, as well as to the award recipients: Don Parker, Matt Daw, Isaac Reuben, Colin Withers, and Neil Brandt.
