Tesla has invested $5 billion (about 34.3 billion yuan) in a super factory that is expected to exceed 10 million square feet (about 930,000 square meters) and start producing lithium-ion batteries on January 4. Sandova said that the super factory has more than 1,000 full-time employees and more than 2,000 construction workers.
The super factory is expected to reach full capacity in 2018, and the annual production battery will exceed the global battery production in 2013.
The Super Factory is an important part of Tesla's strategy to become a major automaker and is expected to produce 500,000 vehicles per year by 2018. Tesla plans to reduce the production cost of Model 3 by mass-producing batteries, and Model 3 is expected to be put into production by the end of this year.
