Ron Olsen, a former deputy chief of the Prospect Heights Fire District and father of Battalion Chief Scott Olsen, passed away on Wednesday, November 8.
Ron began his service with the PHFD in 1962 and retired as a deputy chief in 1988. After retiring, he continued to serve part-time as a fire inspector until 2015, when he officially retired for the second time. His dedication to the community never wavered, even after stepping down from his official roles.

During the early 1970s, when the original fire station was expanded, Ron played a key role in the masonry work and other details. In the 2000s, he helped with major masonry repairs at the station, which saved the district both time and money. His hands-on contributions were a testament to his lifelong commitment to the PHFD.
Ron’s service to the Prospect Heights Fire District and the people of the community was truly invaluable. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
