BMW recalls 32,000 cars worldwide due to auxiliary pump failure

The recalled models involved the 2008-2011 BMW 5-series, 5-series Gran Turismo, 7-series, X5 SAV and X6 SAV models with 8-cylinder or 12-cylinder turbocharged engines.

The role of the auxiliary pump is to help reduce the temperature of the turbocharger while the vehicle is in motion, but when it fails, it will not be able to cool down. Instead, the circuit board will overheat and catch fire. Prior to this, BMW Motors found 102 auxiliary pump failure events worldwide, including two engine compartment fires. Fortunately, no casualties have been caused.

As early as in June 2009, BMW had discovered this situation during the vehicle testing. In April 2010, BMW car owners discovered that the circuit board was burned. In May 2010, the BMW Group established a special team. Conduct a survey on this matter. With regard to this situation that has recently emerged, BMW Motors will notify the owner of the problem vehicle from the beginning of this month to recall the problem vehicle and replace the auxiliary pump.
