The installation of a balancing valve requires careful consideration of several key factors to ensure optimal performance and system balance. First, the location of the balancing valve is important. It can be installed on either the supply or return pipe, with each loop requiring only one valve. For the loop side of a thermal station, it's recommended to install the balancing valve on the return line, where the water temperature is lower, as this allows for more effective adjustment. On the main pipeline, the balancing valve should be placed downstream of the pump (on the supply side) to prevent low pressure before the pump, which could lead to cavitation.
Second, the valve should ideally be installed in a straight section of the pipe. Since the balancing valve has flow measurement capabilities, it’s essential to ensure that the flow is stable both before and after the valve to maintain accuracy. Whenever possible, choose a straight pipe segment for installation.
Third, when connecting a new system to an existing heating or cooling network, care must be taken to maintain balance between the new and original systems. If the new system introduces higher resistance than the original, it may disrupt the overall flow. For example, if the new system is connected at the end of the original system, no additional balancing valve is needed. However, if it's connected at the center, a balancing valve should be installed at the original system’s entrance to maintain equilibrium.
Fourth, once the system is fully installed and tested, the balancing valves should be set using specialized intelligent instruments. After setting, the valve openings should be locked to prevent unauthorized changes. During normal operation, the opening of the balancing valve should not be adjusted, especially the locking mechanism, to maintain hydraulic balance throughout the system.
Fifth, there is no need to install a globe valve alongside the balancing valve. The balancing valve itself can shut off the flow when necessary, such as during maintenance. Once repairs are complete, the valve can be returned to its original locked position, eliminating the need for an additional globe valve.
Lastly, when adding or removing loops from the system, the balancing valves must be re-tuned. When a new loop is added, a corresponding balancing valve should be installed, and the existing ones should be re-commissioned. However, the original balancing valves in branch loops typically do not require readjustment unless significant changes occur in the system configuration.
