The 480t/h ultra-high pressure reheat circulating fluidized bed boiler, developed by Wuxi Huaguang Boiler Co., Ltd., has successfully passed expert evaluation in Beijing. This advanced product incorporates clean coal technology from the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It was installed with a 150MW steam turbine generator set at Inner Mongolia Huadian Wuda Thermal Power Co., Ltd. in March of last year, and completed performance and environmental testing in September. As the first domestically produced large-scale circulating fluidized bed boiler with independent intellectual property rights, it marks a significant milestone in China's power equipment industry. During its commercial operation and performance testing, the boiler demonstrated a simple structure and easy control system. Its technical performance is comparable to global leading standards, particularly due to its innovative design tailored for China’s specific conditions, making it highly suitable for rapid deployment. In the past year, Wuxi Huaguang sold 20 units of this model, generating over 1.5 billion yuan in revenue, with two additional users recently putting the units into service. China's coal resources are diverse, and a large portion of raw coal is directly burned, creating a significant conflict between coal use and environmental protection. Circulating fluidized bed boilers are now seen as an environmentally friendly solution. Most thermal power plants in China use pulverized coal boilers with capacities of 100MW or higher. These systems often rely on expensive flue gas desulfurization technologies, which are hard to apply to smaller boilers below 300MW. However, circulating fluidized bed combustion allows for the addition of limestone during the process, significantly reducing harmful emissions. Many of the early pulverized coal boilers built in the 1960s and 1970s require annual rebuilding, while new and expanded power plants continue to emerge. Experts believe that with stricter environmental regulations, circulating fluidized bed technology represents one of the most practical and efficient coal-fired solutions, offering great potential for future development and application. In its development process, Wuxi Huaguang collaborated closely with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, achieving numerous domestic technological innovations at the 480t/h level. These include the first use of an adiabatic cyclone separator, an innovative anti-wear structure for the four-sided water-cooled wall, a vertical let-off pipe design, a large-diameter embedded counter-current cylindrical hood, and a horizontal cold-distributing wind plate. The company also introduced a large-diameter, high-flow secondary air vent, a special coal-dropping tube without the need for a coal fan, and direct slagging at the furnace bottom with drum cooling. Technological innovation is challenging, but owning independent intellectual property rights makes it even more valuable. Through collaboration with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wuxi Huaguang not only keeps its technology aligned with international standards but also leads in research and development. Some of the project’s innovations have been granted national patents. With the successful implementation of this project, the company is now capable of supplying large-scale ultra-high-pressure reheating circulating fluidized bed boilers, promoting the localization of such technology in China. This will help fill existing gaps in the country's industrial capabilities and save significant foreign exchange. Moreover, the product can replace many small, inefficient, and polluting boilers.
