Petrochemical pumps are primarily manufactured by leading international companies such as Sulzer from Switzerland, Ebara from Japan, KSB from Germany, and Flowserve (formerly Goulds) from the United States. Over the years, the development of petrochemical pumps has focused on large-scale, high-speed, and integrated mechatronic systems. The industry is moving toward standardized, serialized, and generalized pump solutions, with an emphasis on a wide variety of models, improved performance, longer service life, and higher reliability.
Modern advancements include the production of specialized components like seals and bearings, with a strong focus on technological innovation. Notably, there has been rapid progress in the development of high-temperature and cryogenic pumps, high-speed pumps, precision dosing pumps, corrosion-resistant pumps, and pumps designed for viscous or solid-laden media. Shielded pumps have also seen significant improvements in recent years.
Compared to global leaders, China's petrochemical pump industry still lags in several areas. The design theory and methods used in China are relatively outdated, often relying on imitation and analog techniques rather than solid theoretical foundations or experimental data. Manufacturing equipment and technology are not as advanced, resulting in lower precision and efficiency in production. The level of standardization and generalization of products remains low, with limited options in terms of specifications and varieties.
Additionally, Chinese petrochemical pumps still face challenges in terms of efficiency, quality, reliability, sealing performance, and corrosion resistance. As a result, many high-end petrochemical pumps in China are still imported from abroad. However, with ongoing efforts to improve R&D capabilities and manufacturing processes, the domestic industry is gradually catching up and showing promising growth potential.
