This message is from Matt Sosnowski:
> "On May 29, 2022, a Sunday, there was a serious fire in the City of Chicago. The incident involved a still alarm, a working fire response, a box alarm, and multiple changes of quarters. The location was at 4535/4539/4543 South on Justine Cross Streets, specifically the 1533 block of West on 45th Street and the 1529 block of West on 46th Street. A still alarm was reported at 7:37 PM. The initial engine (Engine 49) arrived on scene and reported heavy fire coming from the rear of the building with exposure issues. As a result, the E.F.A.O. upgraded the response to a working fire at 7:42 PM. At 7:44 PM, a box alarm was called in, and additional units were dispatched including Engine 39/50, Ladder 51, Battalion Chief 5/4, and EMS 456. There was also a change of quarters at that time, with Engine 15 replacing Engine 123, Engine 47 replacing Engine 50, and so on. At 7:54 PM, a 2-11 alarm was activated, bringing more resources including Engines 116/16/28/65, Tower Ladder 5, and others. This was a major event, with several companies responding and multiple shifts changing throughout the night."
The fire caused significant damage and required a coordinated response from multiple fire departments and emergency services. Photos taken by Matt Sosnowski and Mariano Stanton show the intensity of the situation and the efforts of the responders on the scene.
It’s always a sobering reminder of how quickly a fire can escalate and the importance of quick action and effective communication during emergencies. The detailed reports like this help us understand what happened and how the teams worked together under pressure.
