Autodesk Workshop XR is an immersive design review environment tailored for the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry. It offers a real-time, collaborative platform where teams can explore 3D models and project data in a shared virtual space, enhancing decision-making and driving more sustainable and profitable outcomes. The solution is integrated with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), allowing seamless access to critical project information from anywhere.
At Autodesk University, the company announced the launch of Workshop XR, emphasizing its role in transforming how AEC professionals plan, review, and collaborate on projects. Nicolas Fonta, senior director and general manager of XR at Autodesk, highlighted that many construction overruns stem from issues discovered too late in the process. "Workshop XR helps teams identify problems early, reducing costly rework and improving overall efficiency," he said.
Designed to be accessible across multiple platforms, including Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, and Meta Quest 3, Workshop XR provides a one-to-one scale experience that allows users to walk through models and gain a realistic understanding of how their designs will translate to the physical world. This level of immersion not only improves spatial awareness but also reduces the need for travel, supporting more sustainable practices.
The solution also includes features like no-prep model loading, which enables teams to instantly view and analyze both small and large models in real time. With full integration into ACC, all project data—such as files, issues, and changes—is automatically synchronized, ensuring that everyone is working from the same source of truth.
Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design, has already begun using an early version of Workshop XR to streamline its design review processes. According to Jon Matalucci, BIM/VDC manager at Stantec, "Workshop XR has transformed how our teams collaborate, especially given our global presence. It’s a realistic, approachable space that brings people together, enabling faster problem-solving and better project delivery."
Beyond just collaboration, Workshop XR supports a hybrid approach to design reviews, allowing teams to engage either through desktop or VR environments. This flexibility ensures that every team member, regardless of location or preference, can participate effectively.
