On August 11, 2022, Barrington and Countryside firefighters were quickly dispatched to two separate house fires reported in the afternoon. Both incidents occurred almost simultaneously, with units responding to addresses on Penny Drive and 4 McGlashen Drive in South Barrington. The fire on Penny Drive was later determined to be unfounded, while the fire at 4 McGlashen Drive was severe.
Upon arrival, police officers on the scene reported heavy fire in the garage, and neighbors had heard an explosion. As the situation unfolded, the call was upgraded from a Code 3 to a Code 4 Working Fire. Due to the intensity of the blaze, a MABAS Box Alarm was requested, and the crews went defensive. A second alarm was called just minutes later as the fire continued to spread.
Firefighters managed to contain the fire largely to the garage and kitchen areas, preventing it from spreading further into the large home. The residence is located in a gated community without access to hydrants, so a tanker shuttle system was used to supply water for firefighting operations. A total of twelve tankers were deployed, including units from Barrington Countryside, Long Grove, Prospect Heights, Round Lake, Bartlett, Nunda, Libertyville, Fox River Grove, Crystal Lake, Wauconda, Huntley, and McHenry Township.
Multiple fire apparatus responded to the scene, including trucks from Hoffman Estates and Palatine, squads from Cary and Schaumburg, and engines from Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates, Carpentersville, Algonquin, Buffalo Grove, Grayslake, Lincolnshire, and Lake Zurich. Additional units came from Barrington Countryside. Ambulances from Barrington, Mount Prospect, and Des Plaines were also on site to assist with any injuries.
